Jesus speaks about His relationship with the Father in John 20v17 and also reveals to us our relationship with the Father. John 20v17; Jesus said to her, “Do not cling to Me, for I have not yet ascended to My Father; but go to My brethren and say to them, ‘I am ascending to My Father and your Father, and to My God and your God.’ We begin to find out that heavenly Father has becomes our Father. Earlier, when Jesus taught His disciples how to pray. He told when you pray say “Our Father who art in heaven”, He didn’t say Father God. He didn’t put his official position. Heavenly Father has an official and a vital position. Every time you call Him “Father God”, you are approaching Him using His official title. But when we address Him as “Father”, that reveals what He is personally to you.
When you discover that God is your Father, you wake up to the fact that you have awesome privileges and rights. So, when you address the Father, try not to be official. Be real as possible. When we describe Father, we can use many words like righteous Father etc. But when it comes to having personal relationship with the Father, it is very different. He has to be vitally your Father. God is God to all His creation. As a matter of fact, He is God to gods. But when it comes to His relationship with us through Jesus Christ, He is our Father. The scripture says “I am ascending to My Father and your Father, and to My God and your God. In this scripture we see the legal aspects of the redemption that made God our Father. Let us take the story of the prodigal son. In Luke 15v11-18, the second son asked for his inheritance. It is very offensive because if you ask for inheritance ahead of time, you are not following order in which inheritance should be followed. When father is alive, why should you ask for inheritance? It is a disgrace. In the story the son went back to the father after squandering his wealth. No matter how many blunders you have done, when you know God as your Father you will be able to accept your wrongs. The ability to accept your wrongs is to step on to the springboard of God’s provision of His grace to be better than your wrongs. Every time you hide your wrongs from the Father, you make matters worse for yourself. Here the prodigal son comes to His father and acknowledges his wrongs. His father receives and restores him. Never hide your wrongs from the Father because He loves you. Jesus has revealed Father to us. Jesus in not “The Father”. In the book of Isaiah chapter nine, the Bible tells us Jesus is our everlasting father but He is not “The Father”. In 1 Cor 4v15, Apostle Paul says we do not many fathers in the Lord. You may have many teachers not fathers. God has brought it to us the word that we are His children and you realize and take advantage of the privileges. God in the old testament is our Father in the new testament by virtue of the sacrifice of the blood of His son Jesus Christ. Fatherhood of God: The parenting fatherhood of God 1. He trains you: God trains you by His word. So, if you are a Christian and do not have a Bible or you do not read it, you are behaving as though God is not your Father. It is not just a religious responsibility to read the Bible. It is a reality, relationship and you search the scriptures. In Act 20v32; “ So now, brethren, I commend you to God and to the word of His grace, which is able to build you up and give you an inheritance among all those who are sanctified.” Hebrews 12v6 says God corrects those whom He loves. He doesn’t correct the way you want. 2. God sends tutors into your life: Galatians 4v1 says an heir is not different from a servant as long as he is a child but he is placed under tutors and governers till the time appointed. How are you following their words? God sent tutors into your life to teach you. There is an attitude that will keep you a babe for life – the attitudes where you pick and choose you want. People show much love but when it comes to love’s correction, they don’t like it. Another phase of mentoring people and bringing them up is that people who are not qualified to be leaders at all, you encourage and raise them because heavenly Father has sent you as tutors in their lives. And make them ministers of God as that is their eternal destiny. The scriptures says in Ephesians 4v12; “For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ.” 3.God sends people into your life and if you avoid them because they are correcting you then you will never amount to the man or woman God ordained you to be. If you always want to hear what you like or appeals to you and what matches your doctrines and mindset, then you are reducing yourself below the standard God has prepared for you. God corrects you and gives you responsibility. In Mathew 5v48; “Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect. What perfection is this? Love. Let love lead. If you are an indisciplined or angry father, then God will touch you and make you an amazing father in your family or ministry.
