Living strong in troubled times, you must know if you are spiritual minded or carnal minded. How do you know if you are spiritual minded or carnal minded?
Being a spiritual minded person is not a person who has gifts of the Holy Spirit or who can speak in tongues or prophecy or see visions etc. Those things are not the criteria of being spiritual minded. To be spiritual minded is to set your mind to the spirit by thinking and prioritizing spiritual values as given to us in the scriptures in the Holy Bible. That is a spiritual minded person. Spiritual minded person is not the one who goes to the church always or loves the Lord or who knows the word of God – that’s not a spiritual minded person; that’s a theologian. A theologian cannot be spiritual minded. A spiritual minded person sets his mind to the scriptures, to the Holy Spirit and to the will of God.
Setting the mind is like setting a clock. You can set your clock to faster or slower or on time. Many peoples mind are exactly like that clock. Some are very slow than the actual expectation of them while some are faster.
Living strong in troubled times is not by might nor by power but by the Spirit of the Lord. People talk in the name of the Lord, they speak in the name of the Lord and show themselves to be spiritual but as Apostle Edmonds grew in the Lord, the Lord taught him that by their fruits you will know them; by the abundance of their hearts, you shall know them.
Some vehicles are more Christian than the person because of the stickers pasted on them that carries the verses of the Bible. But in this church you will live the Bible. In this church you must believe the Bible and practice the Bible. If you are not willing, then this church or this assembly is not for you. In this church, you must grow up to become Christ. In this church you must go from faith to faith; from glory to glory; you must know the word of God. You cannot be just among the public or the crowd. You cannot excuse yourself for not reading the Bible. There are smart phones today; there are audio Bibles today in different languages. In this church your culture is Christ. You talk and behave like Him.
Living strong in times of trouble, you must know if your mind is spiritually tuned. Your mind can be fine tuned spiritually. How do you know if a mind that is fine tuned spiritually? Some of the Christians do not walk according to the flesh but according to the Spirit (Romans 8v1). Now, Esau and Jacob showed us how we can live according to the flesh and how we can be given to the Spirit. When you are given to the Spirit, your mind is tuned to the greater and deeper things of the kingdom of God. Your mind is not fine tuned to the natural things. Esau sold his birth right just for food. Today many Christians are like Esau. Their marriages, their relationship with parents are broken down because of food. They lose their job because of food. In the book of Philippians 3v19, the scripture tells us that many made their stomach god.
Who is spiritual minded? You have to know if you are walking in faith. No assumptions. Assuming that you are walking in faith is very very destructive. Living strong in troubled times, you don’t assume that you are walking in faith. When you grow in the things of God, you fine tune your mind again and again and again. Some people swindle scriptures – using scriptures to say what they want. They have not taken the scriptures like the word of God. No wonder they are not spiritual minded.
People walk according to their senses. There are some ministers of God who are the Holy Spirit to themselves, they are Father to themselves and they are the Son to themselves. They lead themselves to their own place. They look for gain in the ministry. If you continue like this, you are going to walk for the devil in the name of God.
Living strong in troubled times. You think in the church you confess “I know who I am” and you know who you are? When situations come to make you angry or upset you, the way you act should reveal to you how you believe the confession in your church. When situations come and if you blame people…Blaming makes you lame. It doesn’t make you better.
This message is focused on setting your mind. If you are assuming this exhortation is not for you but for others in the church, then it is a proof that you are not spiritual minded. Be clearer that loving God with all your heart does not make you spiritual minded. Setting your mind to the Spirit makes you spiritual minded. (Roman 8v5)
For example, people who want to be friend with their pastor because they like the pastor. On what basis you like the pastor? Because the pastor is spiritual or right with the God or you want to receive emotional love or friendship? OR you want to follow spiritually? You set your mind spiritually. If you feed the spirit, the spirit leads. If you feed the flesh, flesh leads. If you feed both equally, you have clashes. You don’t know. How could someone coming to church for five years asks a question “How to receive the Holy Spirit?” Your ear is deaf. Your mind is shut from the ways of God.
Romans 8v7 “Because the carnal mind is enmity against God; for it is not subject to the law of God, nor indeed can be.” That is why people speak against pastors who walk spiritual minded, leaders who walk spiritually minded, spouses who walk spiritually minded.
Jesus didn’t come into your life to make you think natural but to make you think spiritual (Romans 8v6-31)
